Athena Protection Foundation (“APF,” “we,” “us”) is a Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. We know that many people who contact us are going through something difficult. This policy explains what information we collect through athenaprotectionfnd.org, how we use it, and how we protect it.
If you are in danger
Our website forms are not monitored around the clock. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For 24/7 crisis support, call or text 988.
Information we collect
- Support requests. When you submit a confidential support request, we collect what you choose to tell us, such as your name, how to reach you, and a description of your situation.
- Volunteer applications. Contact details, availability, interests, and any other information you provide on the application.
- Newsletter and contact forms. Your name, email address, and your message.
- Donations, sponsorships, and registrations. These are processed by third-party platforms such as Donorbox, Zeffy, and Eventbrite. APF receives your name, contact details, and gift or registration information. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
- Website usage. Like most websites, our site and its service providers automatically collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and cookies.
How we use your information
- To respond to you and connect you with support and resources you ask for
- To coordinate referrals to partner providers, only with your permission
- To process donations, send receipts, and thank supporters
- To review volunteer applications and coordinate volunteers
- To send updates you have signed up for
- To operate and secure our website, and to prepare summary reports for funders that contain no information identifying the people we serve
Confidentiality of people we serve
Information from people seeking support is treated as confidential. It is shared only with APF personnel who need it to help you, and with partner providers when you agree to a referral. We do not share information about the people we serve with donors or sponsors, and we never use a survivor’s name, story, or image without written consent.
When we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only:
- With your permission
- With service providers that help us run our website, forms, email, donations, and registrations, who may use it only to provide those services
- When required by law, or when needed to protect someone from imminent harm
Donor privacy
We will not sell, trade, or share donor names or contact information with other organizations. We publicly recognize donors and sponsors by name only with their agreement, and you may ask to give anonymously.
Cookies and embedded content
Our site uses cookies to function and to understand how visitors use it. Some pages include content from other services, such as YouTube videos and scheduling or donation tools. Those services may collect information under their own privacy policies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Children’s privacy
Our Little Reggie safety education content is made for children and families, but our website is not designed to collect personal information from children under 13. We do not knowingly collect it. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How we protect and keep information
We limit access to personal information to people who need it and use reasonable safeguards to protect it. No website or transmission is completely secure. We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, grant, or tax record-keeping rules.
